Makeover ~ Vintage French-Inspired Round End Table | Side Table | Drum Table With Storage

In this blog, I’m going to show you how I transformed this vintage round end table into this French-inspired beauty! Be sure to watch the video/tutorial at the end of this blog showing the process as well.

One of my favorite places to shop for old vintage or antique furniture is thrift stores. You never know what treasures you might find. Take for example this rare vintage round end table with storage cabinet. The top was a little scratched with a water stain, and the legs were scuffed up, but it had good, strong bones. I immediately envisioned it draped in soft shades of custom blues and gold. I had to have it!

PREPPING THE END TABLE FOR TRANSFORMATION

I began prepping the end table for its transformation by removing the hardware, then cleaned the entire end table with a soft damp cloth and lightly sanded the top and legs.

BASE COAT

Next, I used a two-inch paint brush and applied two coats of Rust-Oleum Charcoal Chalked Paint for the base coat ~ tapping and brushing in every direction to get the texture I wanted ~ allowing some of the original color to show through. I also applied the same Charcoal Chalked Paint and technique to the top of the end table.

The texture you create with the base coat will be the foundation for the overall look. Allow the base coat to completely dry. NOTE: Chalk paint dries quickly.

TIP: Rust-Oleum Charcoal Chalked Paint is a great substitute for Annie Sloan Graphite

APPLYING THE SECOND COLOR

After the charcoal color base coat dried, I applied one coat of Annie Sloan Louis Blue chalk paint with a round chalk brush using the same tapping and brushing technique I used for the base coat.

Custom Shades of Blues

Next, I used two other shades of blues and applied each over the Louis Blue with a 2″ wet paint brush ~ alternating and blending the colors.

I used Waverly’s Pool Blue and Lagoon Blue Over Louis Blue
TIP: Applying the chalk paint with a wet brush makes blending easier.

Allow the Pool Blue and Lagoon Blue to dry.

White Highlights

Using a dry brush and very little paint, I applied Waverly White chalk paint over the blues here and there.

Gold Metallic Gilding Added to the Details, Edges and Original Hardware

I added Gold Metallic Gilding to the details, edges and original hardware. Allow to dry overnight.

Final Step

The next morning I applied two coats of Rust-Oleum Chalked Protection Top Coat Wax Matte Clear over the painted surfaces and gold gilding.
