Fall is my favorite time of year. The pure magic of the transition from summer to fall stirs up so many emotions and memories for me ~ the anticipation of cooler temps, the changing colors and celebrating the upcoming Holidays with family and friends.
The Basics For A Fall Tablescape
- CHOOSE YOUR COLOR SCHEME
- START WITH A TABLE RUNNER
- ADD LOW GARLAND OVER THE TABLE RUNNER USING FRESH OR FAUX VINES
- ADD FLORAL CENTERPIECE
- ADD VARIOUS SIZES OF PUMPKINS
- LAYER PLACE SETTINGS WITH DIFFERENT COLORS, SIZES AND TEXTURES
- ADD SILVERWARE TO COMPLIMENT YOUR COLOR SCHEME
- ADD AN INTERESTING TUMBLER AND/OR DRINKING GLASS
- ADD CANDLES AND/OR LANTERNS FOR AMBIENCE
- CHANGE THROW PILLOW COVERS TO FALL
The Color Scheme and Overall Look
We recently moved into our newly built European Cottage style home. This will be the first year decorating our new home for the Holidays. I already knew for my fall tablescape I wanted a casual, yet elegant look. When putting together a themed tablescape I always mix old elements with new and include layered place settings, fresh or faux vines, greenery and flowers, candles and/or lanterns.
COLOR SCHEME: For this year’s color scheme I chose a combination of copper, bronze, gold, beige, ice blue, silvery green, and blue green.
With all of that in mind, I headed to our basement storage room and pulled out all of the fall decorations that matched my color scheme. Then I headed to the closet where I store all of the items for my themed tablescapes ~ special dinnerware, silverware, place-mats, chargers, linen napkins, table cloths, table runners, candles, etc.
TIP: Don’t be afraid to mix items you already have on hand with new ~ or glass with metal. I think by mixing the elements it gives your tablescape depth and character. These same tips can be applied to any themed tablescape.
The Fall Tablescape
I chose a burlap table runner layered with individual burlap pieces and artificial weeping willow vines.
I used an old faux copper clay pot for my artificial floral centerpiece.
I tucked various sizes of pumpkins in and around the weeping willow vines. (I used pumpkins I already had in storage. Most of them I had purchased throughout the years from Dollar Tree. Each year, if needed, I repaint them to match my color scheme.)
To set the mood, I placed a set of Six French Gold Candlestick Holders with white battery operated tapered candles down the center (three on each side of the centerpiece), and two Green/Copper Sunset Rustic Metallic Pillar Candles (one on each side of the centerpiece.)
Matching Layered Table and Kitchen Island Place Settings
I love my kitchen in our newly built European Cottage style home! The kitchen is very spacious with a large kitchen island — perfect for entertaining.
I put together matching layered place settings for the table and kitchen island using my old burlap place-mats, copper chargers (originally Dollar Tree silver colored chargers I hand painted using Copper Metallic Paint), my Lenox French Pearl Ice Blue Dinner Plates and Bowls, and dessert plates from my Lenox Vintage Jewel china collection. To complete the place settings I added my vintage gold-rimmed crystal goblets, new copper tumblers and copper silverware.

KITCHEN ISLAND PLACE SETTINGS
Our kitchen island is huge! Nearly 9′ x 6′ — perfect for entertaining a large group of people and provides additional seating. It was one of the selling features for our newly built European Cottage home. The older kids enjoy sitting at the island when we have family gatherings.
FALL SIDEBOARD
I also decorated the sideboard at the end of the dining table using the same fall color scheme and elements as the tablescape. The coffee cups in the 2-tiered wire basket are from the Ice Blue Lenox French Perle Collection
Mixing Old With New
I reuse many of the same pieces in my tablescapes year after year by simply interchanging them. I purchased many of the decorations and dinnerware from thrift stores, Dollar Tree and Amazon. I love a good bargain and love mixing old with new. All of the elements I have on hand work for nearly every occasion, including holidays. You’re only limited by your imagination! I hope I have inspired you for your next Fall project!
